The Royal Wedding Digital Mosaic is a unique interactive application which encourages users to be part of this historic event. Unlike any other interactive tribute wall, the mosaic is filled entirely with photographs submitted by thousands of MSN’s users
via their PC or with Facebook Connect. Users received a unique URL to follow after submission which zoom’s them straight to their picture inside the mosaic, and they can share the link with friends using Facebook and Twitter. To create the Royal Wedding mosaic,
we used our own proprietary software ‘MegaFiche’, which allows each cell within the mosaic to be individually referenced and can potentially feature many millions of images in one giant picture. The Royal Wedding mosaic is built in HTML5 and optimised for
Internet Explorer 9 to create a fast and fluid user experience. Hosting the mosaic on the Windows Azure platform has enabled us to guarantee bandwidth download performance that can cope with the high demand across MSN portals.
