Monitoring and reporting national emissions and removals of greenhouse gases is a requirement of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the European Union Greenhouse Gas Monitoring Mechanism. Annual emissions of CO2, CH4, N2O, HFCs, PFCs, SF6 from individual European countries are provided for the period from 1990 to the latest reporting year, which for the present is 2008. Countries covered are the 27 EU Member States, Croatia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey. Sectoral data (International Panel on Climate Change classification) is provided for the following main source categories: Energy, Industrial Processes, Solvent and Other Product Use, Agriculture, Land-Use Change and Forestry, Waste, Other, CO2 emissions from Biomass, International bunkers and Multilateral Operations. Data are updated annually around May.
